A brilliant piece of writing! This does not belong in a blog, but in major Canadian newspapers. Several defendants' only defence seems to be that their joining a clearly social media mobbing action did not cause any "significant" damage to Steven Galloway's life and writing career. This might fly if we were talking about alleged plagiarism or shoplifting, but here we are talking about repeating and categorically affirming unfounded allegations of rape after these allegations were dismissed by the Boyd Report as never having happened. It is difficult to imagine any other outcome other than the Anti-SLAPP motion being dismissed, the lawsuit proceeding to trial and then a verdict with considerable compensation paid to Steven Galloway. However, I don't think that any amount of financial compensation will make Galloway whole again. I hope that some of the defendants, who were duped by the original allegations against Galloway will search their souls and in due course come forward to admit they were wrong and seek reconciliation with the person they have wronged. This is unlikely to happen, but realistically, it is probably the only way the damage can be repaired.

Dear Mr Cran,

I’d like to congratulate you on your great and thorough journalistic work in your effort to help clear a great injustice and Mr Galloway’s name. I have no doubt that Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Salman Rushdie would agree with me on this point and would also root for you.

If it wasn’t for your efforts and Mr Galloway’s dignified composure and his commitment to due judicial process, those of us in the book trade would not have been able to find the truth about the perverse witch hunt of Mr Galloway’s person and the unjustified attempt at destroying his writing career.

In regards to Mr Galloway not returning to writing, I really hope you are both wrong. As a bookseller with 25 years experience behind me, I can’t wait to read and sell to other readers the work I hope will crystallize after this terrible ordeal is finally over.

You, Mr Galloway, Margaret Atwood and all those who have had the courage to resist the hysteria of false accusations are making a big difference.

From the other side of the pond I wish you both strength and good luck in continuing this fight.

Such a painful, labyrinthine process to undo a lie from someone with her own toxic agenda. So much self-righteous certainty from the supporters of a master manipulator. It's a sad comment on human nature that as soon as a paradigm shifts (the construct that women routinely lie about sexual assault changing to one in which women are believed), someone manages to use that shift for her own nefarious purposes, apparently revenge.

It is so appalling that a talented writer and teacher like Steven Galloway cannot envision continuing his career. What a waste. All in the name some distorted vision of "feminism."

The Bacchae have torn apart their victim.

Thanks. So glad I subscribed. Worth ever penny. In addition to the jaw-dropping court transcripts, your writing is a joy: clear, graceful, and rich with observations about human nature.

Wow, this is just the “preliminary hearing” aka SLAAP motion just to determine if there is enough evidence. Kind of strikes me as self defeating!

Anyways keep up the good work
